Road to Tara Museum
Located just fifteen miles south of Atlanta, the Official Home of Gone With the Wind located in Clayton County, Georgia, has the touch of Southern charm and local main streets you’re looking for while being close to all the action of Atlanta.

How did Clayton County get the designation of "Official Home of Gone With the Wind?” In April 1969, Stephens Mitchell, Margaret Mitchell’s brother, was quoted during a speech: "I want Clayton County to have the name ‘Home of Gone With the Wind,’ I have wished for this promotion  for a long time, because it is the home of Gone With the Wind. This would have been pleasing to my late sister, Margaret.”

The Road to Tara Museum, located in historic downtown Jonesboro brings the world of Gone With the Wind to life. Step into the world of Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel and the sweeping romance of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara. The museum combines the real history of the Civil War’s Atlanta Campaign and the 1864 Battle of Jonesboro along with both Hollywood’s and Mitchell’s versions of Gone With the Wind.
